Paying it forward

Socialite Gloria Vanderbilt said: “I always believe that one woman’s success can only help another woman’s success.”  She was way ahead of her time as she correctly pointed out a much needed change in the female dynamic.

As we head towards spring, it’s hard not to notice the intentional focus on women during August. While all done with sincerity, surely the month should be about more than pamper sessions or spa days? Having fought for decades, women’s rights are finally in the limelight with so many having stood up and fought for equality.

Lean In, launched four years ago with Sheryl Sandberg, sparked conversation about women in the workplace and encouraged a fight for the respect and power richly deserved. Having laid the foundation, it’s now time for women to find strength and challenge the status quo. Sandberg called on all women to expand the conversation and to invest in, support, and rely on each other.

The Let’s #LeanInTogether campaign says that when a woman helps another woman, they both benefit. And when women celebrate one another’s accomplishments, we’re all lifted up. Together women can do more, go further, and change the world.

As the end of Women’s month approaches, let’s change the dialogue and focus on showing support to each other.  If we all create our own circle of strength and mentor, coach or just listen to each other, women’s month will become an everyday occurrence. Together we can not only gain much needed acknowledgment, but also achieve greatness.

More importantly, we will show our future female leaders a new and more empowered way forward, building a generation of women who stand together, fight together and rise together.

In the spirit of women supporting each other and paying it forward, share your idea or plan to support another woman and win free coaching sessions, including and Enneagram assessment – comment or feedback on my Blog/LinkedIn/Facebook page before the end of August.
